So many students go to college on a regular basis. So many more adults go back to school to improve their careers or to follow a different path. With the slumping economy and the desolate job market, some people might begin questioning their motives for training and education. You might be thinking 'Why should I go back to school? I just lost my job and the only place hiring is the grocery store. High schoolers can work there, how hard can it be?' This is probably true, but you should still consider a few things nonetheless. Are you really going to work at the grocery store for the rest of your life? If you have higher training or have worked in a different career your whole life, the odds are good that you won't stay long.
Don't focus on the now. That is the first key to successful goal achievement. Sure, now there might not be any job openings for the areas that you're studying or training in.
What about in a year or two when you're done with your education or training? You don't know what will happen in the future, so you might as well take the time to get the education that you've always wanted while the job markets are slow. Take a part time job (or even full time) at that grocery store you mentioned, and spend the rest of your time learning about whatever career field most interests you.Once your education has been completed, you can go out and do a job search to find your new career. It doesn't matter if you're 21 or 45 because a new career can add enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment to anyone's life. It might be hard to keep focused on your goals and dreams when times are so tough. After all, it probably seems like your goals are not nearly as important as the things that you need to do in order to stay on top of things in your life. Don't let the economy get you down. Focus on a better future and keep forging ahead on the path to your goals.
While many overqualified professionals are having to settle for working wherever they can find a job, it's scary to think about spending thousands of dollars on an education that might end up being fruitless. That doesn't mean that you should give up. Take a chance on yourself and invest in that education so that you can have a better shot at your goals. After all, the bigger the risk you take, the bigger the reward will be. Your career and success in life is an investment well worth making, no matter what the economy looks like.
