Deciding to change career is a big step, but one which is being made by more and more people, as they become dissatisfied with the rat race and the daily commute to a nine to five job. If you have reached the point where you feel that the only way forward is to change career, there are some things you really need to know before you make a move. Here are three of the most important.

Fact #1 No Job is 100% Secure

When you are looking for a new direction, it is tempting to try to find something which will be very secure. However, the truth is that no job is ever secure, no matter how it might seem. There are certainly career fields which are more secure than others. If you were to lose your job in one of these, you would have a better chance of finding another post than might be the case in a less secure field.

Areas which are considered to be relatively safe are education, medical care, and computer related jobs.

But the question you have to ask yourself is, Do I want to be relatively secure or do I want to be happy? Of course, you would like to be both, but that isn't always possible.

Fact #2 You will Probably Have to Work a Lot Longer Than You Thought

When you started out in the workplace, you expected that you would work till the age of 60 or 65 and then retire with a nice pension which would enable you to enjoy your retirement.

This is no longer the case for the majority of people of working age.
